Network Dynamics

Topology, centrality, and robustness in graphs

Generate network topologies -- regular rings, random graphs, scale-free networks, small-world networks -- and observe how structure determines function. Measure degree, eigenvector, or betweenness centrality. Then test robustness: remove nodes randomly or by targeting the highest-centrality hubs. Scale-free networks are robust to random failure but catastrophically fragile to targeted attack.

Node size and color encode centrality. Try random vs. targeted attack: scale-free networks are robust to random failure but fragile to targeted hub removal.
